The East Coast Basketball League held its annual general meeting on August 22 and are pleased to announce two expansion teams: Coastal Elite Pirates and Garden City Magic. Both will begin league play in 2021.
Playing out of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina the Coastal Elite Pirates are not new to the minor league circuit in the Carolinas. Operated by Jahxavier Anderson and Jason Wallace, the Pirates began competing against ECBL teams last winter in exhibition games which should help as the team transitions to full time league member.
“This is a great opportunity to become apart of a wonderful league filled with outstanding teams and core leadership,” commented Wallace. “The Coastal Elite staff is committed to upholding the level of excellence and building upon the foundation that has already been laid.”
Mike Couvson and Michael Carter are owners of the Garden City Magic who were founded in 2019. Based in Augusta, Georgia the Magic feature a number of players with ECBL experience.
“We expect both expansion teams to compete right away,” said league president Chris Thomas. “These are not your typical new teams; they have both played together before and have plenty of veterans on and off the court.”
