Riverview League playoffs came to a conclusion Sunday night with the four and five seed playing in Game 5 of their week-long series. The fourth state tournament berth was on the line in the game between MacStrength Grizzlies and Plymouth Hitdawg. Both teams were seeking their first-ever state tournament which went to the Grizzlies after an 8-6 victory.
Another team – Edina Buckshots – will also be making their state tourney debut. They won their best-of five series against the Northwest Orioles in four games.
The two league giants, Minnetonka Millers and St. Louis Park, are back as well with both having successful seasons. The league champion Millers (31-6) finished one game ahead of St. Louis Park (20-9) while splitting their two games in the regular season.
Making their 34th appearance, Minnetonka will be one of the favorites in the field of 16 as the Millers seek their 16 state title. They are currently on a 10-game win streak with three non-league games on their schedule this week.
St. Louis Park is back in the tourney having won the crown three times (2002, 2008, 2018). Park are peaking at the right time, winners in nine of their last 11 games. They swept their playoff series against the Bloomington Bandits winning 17-3, 15-4 and 11-2 to earn their 31st state appearance.
