Air Freight win first MBA Class A title

Air Freight Unlimited are Class A champions. Appearing in their third championship game AFU finally gave up the “runner up” role by defeating Highland Park Beavers 12-1.

Both teams earned victories during the day to earn their spot in the final. While Air Freight had a fairly easy semifinal win Highland Park needed some late inning heroics to top the St. Paul Capitals.

It didn’t take Air Freight long in the final as Dan Scallon hit a two-out double to drive in the first pair of runs in the second inning. The score stayed that way until the fifth when back-to-back home runs put AFU in front 6-0. Nate Pierce connected first with a three-run shot followed by a moon-shot solo homer by Tommy Cummings.

Starting pitcher Ben Meyer did the rest for Air Freight throwing an 8-inning complete game. He allowed just one run (scored in the fifth) on two hits.

The offense would add another pair of runs in the seventh before a four-run eighth inning put an end to the hopes of the Beavers. Air Freight ended the night with 12 runs on 14 hits.
