It was a near repeat performance from the 2020 tournament by Stockmen’s Irish pitcher Teddy Klingsporn who helped his team to a 6-2 victory over Riverview League champion St. Louis Park on Sunday. Klingsporn threw eight innings allowing just two runs on four hits, striking out four Park batters.
Flashback to exactly one year ago: Klingsporn was the Irish starting pitcher in their opening round game against St. Paul Hops. He went out to throw a complete game shutout while striking out 12.
The Irish scored early in this one with Park giving up a run in the first to turn a double play. It lasted until the second inning when St. Louis Park stringed together three straight singles to load the bases. Jimmy Heck hit a ground ball to first who fired to second for an out, but the throw back to first was off the mark allowing two runners to cross the plate.
Trailing 2-1, Stockmen’s would respond with a trio of runs. Brian Knight doubled scoring a pair then Brody Paulsen made it 4-2 with an RBI double of his own. Paulson would drive in another in the fifth while Klingsporn cruised through the middle innings. Nick Degen picked up an RBI in the eighth to finish scoring in the game.
Joey Cardamon came on to pitch the ninth for the Irish, stranding a pair of runners to finish the game.
