Champion vs champion. The first ECBL Super Cup is happening on Saturday in Lincolnton, North Carolina. The game features winners of the Mid-Atlantic (Western Mass Zombies) and South (PrimeTime Players).
Western Mass Zombies (11-3)
Opened their inaugural ECBL campaign on March 13 with a 153-124 victory at Red Rose Thunder. Lost two of their next three, but have been rolling since. The Zombies strung together six-straight wins before a road loss on May 22.
PLAYOFFS: defeated Fredericksburg Grizzlies (130-105) and Hub City Hogs (122-117) to claim the Mid-Atlantic trophy.
Led by Mid-Atlantic MVP Tylon Smith who avaged 26.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 6.0 assists in 14 games. Jahmerikah Green-Younger (Albertus Magnus College ’20) and Tyler Desrosiers (Post University ’18) provide plenty of scoring punch.
Player to watch: Malik Petteway – one of the few big men on the Zombies roster averaged 14 points along with 16.7 rebounds and a league-best 3.2 blocks per game.
PrimeTime Players (14-2)
Six-time ECBL champion were nearly dethroned in the championship game by a surprise North Carolina Coyotes group. Opened their season with a seven-game win streak before a two-game slide with losses to Florence Wildcats and Georgia Fire. Won eight-in-a-row.
PLAYOFFS: eliminated Georgia Fire (107-105) and Carolina Thunder (160-148) before title game victory over North Carolina Coyotes (130-128).
Former NBA player Trevor Booker (24.5 points, 16.2 rebounds) led a balanced PTP attack this season. Three-time league MVP Chris Moore (24 points, 6.7 rebounds, 10.5 assists) drives the engine and has the ability to take over games. Van Turner provides plenty of offense averaging 23.6 per game.
Players to watch: Ricardo Glenn and (21.2 pts, 17.0 reb) and Odell Turner (16.4 pts, 12.8 reb) have experience and along side Booker provide plenty of size.
