First-year East Coast Basketball League club Plaistow Shockers are moving south. The team announced today their intention to relocate to the Hartford County region for 2022. The Shockers have called the Plaistow Community YMCA home since their formation in the summer of 2019.
Formed in the summer of 2019 by Donovin Ford-Hayes, the Shockers began competing in the ABA before joining a group of seven regional teams to form the new ECBL Mid-Atlantic. Plaistow Shockers went 3-8 in their inaugural ECBL campaign.
Ford-Hayes wears several hats for the team, including GM and player. A 2011 graduate of Windsor Locks (CT) High School, he went on to play four seasons at NCAA Division III Becker College. This past January Ford-Hayes was named Assistant Director of Athletic Operations at his alma mater.
“It feels good to be home,” said Hayes when asked about the move to Connecticut. “I’m excited for the Shockers and our future in the ECBL.”
With the move to a new region, new talent is sure to follow. Stay tuned to the team social media channels for upcoming tryout opportunities.
