Carolina Thunder wrapped up their ECBL regular season last weekend hosting the five-time league champion PrimeTime Players. After a strong first half the Thunder fell short in the end 150-141.
With the lose Carolina Thunder (9-4) ended in second place of the ECBL Southeast Division. They will be the four seed for the upcoming Southern Conference playoffs. Florence Wildcats (13-1) and PrimeTime Players are the top two seeds and will have a first round bye.
Playing with just six players, the Thunder got off to a great start. They led 35-34 after one and 74-71 at halftime. Leading the way once again was Bunyon Tyson who poured in 41 points. Alex Brown was red-hot shooting 61.9% from the field and sinking nine of 16 from beyond the arc. He finished with a season-high 36 points.
PrimeTime came out for the second half and took command, outscoring the home team 41-26 in the quarter then held on in the fourth to secure the victory. With the win PrimeTime Players (12-2) captured the Southwest Division title over the Georgia Fire (11-3).
Van Turner led the PTP offense with 32 points, but it was veteran Ricardo Glenn the big difference maker in this one. Glenn scored 27 points on 13-of-21 shooting and set a new ECBL record for rebounds in a game with 34. He also dished out eight assists and three steals.
Chris Moore (25 points, seven rebounds, 11 assists) and Odell Turner (22 points, 16 rebounds) also were key players in the PTP win.
Rookie Deon Joyner posted season highs in points (32) and rebounds (15) for the Thunder. A native of North Charleston, Joyner wrapped up his collegiate career in 2020 at NCAA Division II Benedict College.
Kendrick Whittington put up another double-double for Carolina scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. It was his fifth double of the season in six games played.
Carolina Thunder begin their quest for an ECBL title on Saturday when they face division rival Charlotte (7-6). The two teams met once during the regular season with the Thunder coming out on top 128-127 on March 28.
Game time is scheduled for 3:00 PM at Mountain Island Fitness.
