Opening the season with two losses, the Carolina Thunder are back on track after winning both games last weekend. The Thunder defeated Carolina Crusaders 124-112 at home on March 27 before making the trek to Charlotte where they handed the Tribe their first loss of the season 128-127.
Bunyon Tyson had a big performance in the weekend opener leading all scorers with 34 points. He also chipped in with nine rebounds and seven assists. Jaylen Shaw and Alex Brown each scored 17 in the win over the Crusaders (0-3) who have also had a tough stretch to open the ECBL season.
A pair of Thunder big men each posted a double-double: Kendrick Whittington (13 points, 23 rebounds) and Kenny Wayne-Jackson (13 points, 11 rebounds).
In the weekend finale Carolina battled back-and-forth all game with Charlotte who was 4-0 on the season coming in. The teams exchanged leads throughout with Charlotte leading 30-25 after one only to see the Thunder take a 63-61 halftime advantage.
Tyson again led the offense with 36 points while dishing out six assists. Austin Lawson played a great all-around game scoring 19 and a game-high 13 rebounds. Other contributors included James Richardson (18 points, five rebounds), Demitrious Richardson (16 points, nine rebounds) and Jarvis Williams (12 points, nine rebounds, four assists). Wayne-Jackson came close to another double-double finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Carolina Thunder (2-2) have a weekend off before returning to Coach TB Thomas Sports Center on April 10 when they will host PrimeTime Players (5-0).
