Jr. Blues take weekend opener in OT

St. Louis Jr. Blues and Oregon Tradesmen began a three-game series on Friday night at Oregon Ice Arena. After a 2-2 tie after regulation Joey Boccardi scored the overtime winner to earn the extra point in the standings.

Carter Stobb opened scoring in the first, the lone tally of the opening 20 minutes. It was the eighth goal of the season for the Onalaska native.

St. Louis would tie the game at 10:20 of the second before a late period powerplay goal from Sam VanderHoeven gave the Tradesmen a 2-1 advantage going into the third.

Despite being outshot 17-13 in the period St. Louis would score the only goal of the third when Matt McGowan made it 2-2 at 12:34.

Each team had opportunity in the three-on-three overtime, but it was Boccardi who eventually ended the game at 3:35 of the extra session.

Danny Fraga stopped 58 shots to earn the victory for the Jr. Blues. Cole Garver made 43 saves in defeat.

The teams meet again on Saturday night. Game time scheduled for 7:30 PM.
