Chorske nets OT winner for Norsemen

Last night’s boxscore looked very similar to a St. Cloud Norsemen game earlier this month. A 3-2 final. Brett Chorske scores the overtime winner. On Friday night it was repeated as St. Cloud Norsemen defeated the host Bismarck Bobcats.

Nate Warner opened scoring at 12:53 with his first North American Hockey League goal to give St. Cloud the lead. Playing in just his second game for the Norsemen, the University of Minnesota commit made an immediate impact.

The game remained 1-0 until the final 1:09 of the opener frame when Bismarck evened the game when Grant Achan scored on the powerplay. Just :29 later the Bobcats took the lead with a Ryan Taylor marker.

Down 2-1 for the first half of the second period, the Norsemen tied the game at 10:35 as Ryan O’Neill netted his fourth goal of the season making the score 2-2.

The teams would battle for the next 30 minutes, but a goal could not be found forcing overtime.

It didn’t take long for the heroics as Bismarck turned the puck over in the St. Cloud zone just one minute into the extra session. Tyler Borsch slipped a pass to a streaking Brett Chorske who found himself all alone with the Bobcats goaltender. For Chorske, who recently committed to Colorado College, it was his second overtime goal in 10 days.

With the victory the Norsemen improved to 7-14-0-0. They will face the Bismarck Bobcats (14-10-1-3) again on Saturday, February 13 at 7:15 PM in Bismarck.
