Pakkala scores the OT winner for Dryden in home opener

Evan Pakkala scored the game winning goal in overtime helping the Dryden Ice Dogs down the Red Lake Miners 4-3. It was the first two games in Dryden this week after splitting a two-game set in Red Lake.

Brady Herroun opened scoring in period one scoring his second of the season at 10:25. Jordan Baranesky and Ryan Howe assisted on the powerplay marker.

Dryden took command of the ice in the second frame and tied it at 10:48 on a goal scored by Max Rath. The game stood at 1-1 heading into the third.

The Ice Dogs carried some of that momentum into the third and took their first lead of the game at 4:38 when Evan Pakkala scored.

Red Lake would equalize at 10:29 when Barranesky found the back of the net. Assists were credited to Herroun and Howe.

It wouldn’t take Dryden long to regain the advantage as Kendall Schulz scored just :52 later to make it 3-2. The Ice Dogs quickly found themselves in the penalty box again though and the Barranesky, Herroun, Howe trio again made them pay. It was the third tally of the season for Barranesky who missed the season opener.

Dryden ended the third on the powerplay, but failed to score earning both teams a point in the standings. In the end Evan Pakkala became the hero scoring the overtime winner at 2:05.

Dylan Kosik stopped 31 of 34 shots to earn the victory in net. Miners goaltender Dylan Barton made 43 saves.

Dryden and Red Lake will meet one more time on Thursday. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM at Dryden Memorial Arena.
