Mullets double-up Mallards in Isanti

The Minnesota Mullets made the trek north to Isanti on Wednesday night to face the Rum River Mallards in the first game of a home-and-home set between the two USPHL teams. The visitors went home happy after a 4-2 victory. The two teams meet again on Thursday in Minneapolis.

A closely contested game throughout, the Mullets struck first at 15:32 of the first on a goal scored by Butch Mohler. It was the first of two for Mohler, a 20-year old from Phoenix, who found the back of the net early in the second period.

Rum River goaltender Austin Bartell played well to keep the Mallards in the game stopping 32 shots in the first 40 minutes. He ended the game with 44 saves.

Trailing 2-0 and being out shot 34-22 after two periods, the Mallards battled back in the third. Carter Robinson got the offense on the scoreboard at 5:22 with assists from Anthony Tuccitto and Garrett Sawyer. It was the fifth tally of the season for the Simley graduate who has eight points in his first 11 games with Rum River.

The visitors retook a two-goal advantage at 11:06, before Derrick Becklin and Jack Hermann hooked up with Kennan Reyelts for his fourth goal of the season to make it 3-2 with 5:34 to play.

The Mallards put 17 shots on net in the third, but a last minute goal by Ryan Wolf clinched the win for the Mullets.
