The second season begins this week for the teams of the USPHL. After a 44-game regular season eight teams in the Midwest-West will begin their road to the national championship to be played in Boston.

Just three points separated the Rum River Mallards (26-17-1-0) and Minnesota Blue Ox (26-14-4-0) who will meet in the first round in a best-of three series. As the four-seed the Blue Ox earned the right to host the series, scheduled for Friday 7:45 PM, Saturday 7:00 PM and Monday 3:00 PM (if necessary). All game will be played at the Coon Rapids Ice Center.

The two teams met five times during the regular season with Rum River winning three times.

Both teams enter the playoffs red-hot. The Mallards won six of their final seven games, including victories over the division winner Hudson Havoc and second place Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings. Blue Ox are just as confident, riding a 10-game win streak.
