Vegas pass first road test with shutout of Avalanche

After opening their inaugural season at home the Las Vegas Thunderbirds took to the road for the first time traveling to Anaheim for a Saturday night clash with the Ontario Avalanche. At the end of the night the Tbirds were still unbeaten posting a second consecutive shutout with a 7-0 victory.

Seen as a preseason contender by some the host Avalanche provided little opposition to the Vegas juggernaut who have outscored the opposition 26-6 in their first five games. Christoffer Juvas scored what would be the game winner just :28 into the game. Emil Svartbro and Joe Terrana assisted on the tally.

Tomas Urbanec scored a pair of goals before first intermission to make the score 3-0. Urbanec now has 135 regular season goals scored, tied for most in Western States Hockey League history.

Las Vegas native Darion Caraway netted a pair of goals – his first of the season – to help the Thunderbirds to a 5-0 advantage early in the third period. Owen Webster and Svartbro would also find the back of the net before the final horn.

Thunderbirds goaltender Owen Kennedy made his Junior hockey career debut a memorable one stopping all 18 shots faced to earn the shutout. Kennedy is one of several former Vegas Junior Golden Knights players on the roster.

Las Vegas (5-0-0-0) continue their four-game set away from home next weekend with a trio of games against WSHL West Division rivals. The Valencia Flyers (0-6-1-0) will host the Tbirds on Thursday and Friday before wrapping up the weekend with a Saturday night game against the San Diego Sabers (2-3-0-1).
