Beginning a new season with a pair of losses is not how any team would like to start, but the OCN Blizzard have had many positive things to build on. An 3-1 opening night loss to the red-hot Waywayseecappo Wolverines was followed by a 6-4 road defeat at the hands of the Winkler Flyers. That second game saw spirit from the young squad, who trailed 5-1 before battling back with three third period goals.
Flash forward to Sunday night – OCN is in Winnipeg for the annual MJHL Showcase playing a pair of regular season games. The Blizzard used some of that momentum from the night before and earned their first victory of the season defeating Neepawa Natives 2-1.
A first period goal by veteran Cory Checco (Lakeville, MN) was answered late in the frame by Neepawa. After a scoreless second 19-year old Wes Dobbin (London, Ont) scored his first Blizzard goal, which turned out to be the game winner.

A pair of 17-year olds are making their mark early on: Boston Bird (two goals, one assist), Kobe Campbell (one goal, three assists) are leading the team in scoring after three games.
Goaltender Danick Rodrigue has been a pleasant surprise so far as well. In two appearances the Quebec-born netminder has posted impressive numbers: 1.52 GAA and .941 save%.
OCN Blizzard will wrap up their MJHL Showcase on Monday 5:00 PM when they face the Virden Oil Capitals (3-0-1-1) who have yet to lose in regulation. The game will stream live on HockeyTV.
