After a one-year hiatus the Flin Flon Bombers and OCN Blizzard renewed their rivalry last night at Gordon Lathlin Memorial Arena in the first of two games between the teams. They will meet again on Saturday in Flin Flon for what has been dubbed the Battle of the North.
OCN jumped on the Bombers early scoring twice in the opening minutes. They would grow that advantage to 4-1 before fighting off a spirited Flin Flon group to win 5-3.
Five different players scored for the Blizzard: Dustin Mozdzen opened scoring at 2:56 before Tobias Odjick made it 2-0 only :35 later. Kobe Campbell, Carson Pawlenchuk and Rylan Bartley also found the back of the net for OCN.
Earning first star of the game was Blizzard goaltender Zach Cloutier. The Quebec native stopped 45 of 48 shots including all 27 faced in the final frame.
