PCBL Playoffs underway

Pioneer Collegiate Baseball League playoffs began today with the Wild Card Game in Fort Dodge. The host Gypsum Miners faced Peak Prospects, based in Granger (Iowa), who played a half-season schedule in the league.

Although Peak had taken three of four games during the regular season the day belonged to Fort Dodge who took an early 3-0 lead and cruised to a 9-2 victory. They will now face the top team of the summer in Bancroft Bandits (30-5) who set a league record for most victories in a regular season. Game 1 of the best-of three is scheduled for Monday.

Playing in the second semifinal series will be Storm Lake Whitecaps and Carroll Merchants. Although the Whitecaps finished with a better record Carroll will host a possible Game 3 at Merchants Park with Storm Lake as the “home” team.
