Another hometown player has signed with the expansion Las Vegas Thunderbirds for the 2019-20 season. The team announced today the addition of 19-year old defensemen Gabe Testa.
A two-year veteran of Junior hockey, Testa returns to the SoBe Ice Arena where he previously skated with the Nevada Storm. Testa began his Junior career in 2017-18 as a member of the Fresno Monsters posting seven points in 35 games. Last season he moved east to play with the Long Beach Sharks before finishing the season in Canada.
“Gabe is another experienced player who has grown to become a very useful asset to the Thunderbirds,” explained coach Hyrsky. “We look forward to him playing on both sides of puck. He showed me good instincts on the offensive side, and is responsible defensively. With some work I feel he can be a leader for us.”
At 5’10 185-pounds Testa has the size and skill set to advance in his hockey career. With his 19th birthday just behind him Hyrsky is confident he can accomplish whatever goals he sets.
“We will pay close attention to Gabe as we feel his skill can get him to the next level. With some guidance on when and where to take chances he could be a real good Junior and university player.”
