Then there were four… MBL elite rising to the top

After five weeks of play in the 26-team Midwest Basketball League just four teams remain unbeaten. With the regular season extending until the end of June there is plenty of time for playoff positions to be won.

Two Chicago rivals sit atop the MBL East Division with both Chicago Fury (5-0) and Chicago Knights (5-0) yet to taste defeat. They have a date on June 1 in the first of two head-to-head matchups.

Just east of Lake Michigan there are two clubs on the heels of their friends from the Windy City. Fort Wayne Bubba Ballers (5-1) and Fort Wayne Vision (4-2) both have proved to be formidable opponents so far and could contend to the MBL championship in July.

Sitting on top of the MBL West is the newcomer Eagan Bulldogs (6-0) who handled the two-time league champion Cedar Valley CourtKings (5-1) in Week 2. They will meet one more time in the regular season – June 9 – this time in Waterloo.

Defending league champion TC Elite (4-1) are starting to gel as a group after dropping their season opener to the always competitive Minnesota Lakers (5-3). Expansion team Bay Area Titans (4-3) have proven tough early on with their losses all at the hands of the top three in the division.

New to the MBL this season is a five-team South division which has proven to be balanced so far. Questlife Warriors (4-0) with Dallas Kings (3-1) and Texas Revelation (2-2) right behind.

Week 6 action resumes May 11 with nine games on the schedule. See the MBL website for details.
