Peguis Juniors win fourth straight KJHL title

Trailing 3-1 in the best-of seven series meant little to the Peguis Juniors who had won the last three KJHL titles. Saturday night in Cross Lake the Juniors made it a four-peat completing the comeback with an 8-5 victory in Game 7 against the regular seaon winner Cross Lake Islanders.

After a up-and-down regular season the team seems to be clicking on all cylinders now. After dropping the first two games in the opening round of the playoffs against OCN Storm the Juniors fought off elimination three times to advance, a feat they repeated in the finals.

They will now have an opportunity to some payback at Keystone Cup 2019 which will be hosted by Peguis. Last year the Juniors lost the Gold Medal game to the Thunder Bay Northern Hawks 5-2. Those same Northern Hawks will again be the favorite at the April 19-21 tournament after sweeping both the LJHL regular season title and playoff championship.

Also making their way across the border will be the LJHL runner up Thunder Bay Fighting Walleye who took the bronze medal in 2017 after a semifinal defeat at the hands of Peguis.
