Cross Lake wrap up KJHL regular season title

With two games remaining in the regular season Cross Lake Islanders (21-4-0-1) have wrapped up the regular season title and top seed for the upcoming KJHL playoffs.

All four league teams met over the weekend in Peguis for the last installment of the KJHL Showcase Series. Cross Lake took five of a possible six points with victories over Peguis Juniors and Norway House North Stars. Their only blemish was a 7-6 overtime loss at the hands of OCN Storm.

Each team played three games in the three day marathon which also featured a league skills competition on Saturday.

The Islanders have just one league championship in their history capturing the Northwest Junior Hockey League honor in 1995. In their eight season KJHL history Cross Lake had their best finish in 2016 when the Islanders advanced to the semifinals before falling to OCN Storm in four games.

Peguis are scheduled to host Cross Lake next weekend in the final two games of the regular season. OCN Storm (19-9-0-0) and Norway House North Stars (4-24-0-0) have completed their regular season schedule.
