Guelph Hurricanes welcomed the Brampton Bombers to Sleeman Centre on Thursday night handing the visitors a 3-1 defeat. It was Guelph Food Bank Night with all donations from fans going to the local charity.
In a game mostly dominated by the Hurricanes, who outshot Brampton 39-21, it was the Bombers who scored first. Ivan Brewer made it 1-0 late in the first period scoring a shorthanded goal.
Things quickly turned in the second when Anthony Mota score two goals in a 3:02 span to give Guelph a 2-1 lead less than seven minutes into the frame. Tyler Harrison and Mathieu Mercier assisted on both goals.
Former Brampton skater Adel Zivojevic (assisted by Brad Smith and Brett Hunter) would make it a two-goal advantage just 2:04 into the third helping the Hurricanes breeze to the victory.
Goaltender Trevton McGrail (1-2-1) posted his first victory as a Hurricane stopping 20 of 21 shots. His goals against average improved to 2.43 after four appearances.
Guelph (6-3-1-1) are back in action on Friday night at conference foe Stratford Warriors (6-1-0-0), who lead the GOJHL scoring 6.28 goals per game. Game time at Allman Arena is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
