Quebec Senior Lacrosse League rivals Kahnawake Mohawks and Capital Region Axemen met for the fourth and final time of the 2017 regular season on Saturday with the Mohawks walking away victors for the fourth time 10-8. It was also the fourth game decided by two goals.
A tightly contested game throughout, Kahnawake scored twice (Ryan Dewar and Ryan Suitor) late in the opening period to lead 3-2 at intermission. Ryan Fournier and Pete Jacobs opened the second period scoring to make it 5-2 before the host Axemen went on a run of their own.
Mark Vradenburg scored twice in the frame while Todd Chapman and Alec Johnston added goals of their own and after 40 minutes of play the score was tied 6-6.
The Mohawks would not be denied in the third as Paul Kirby and Karahkwanoron Two Axe (two goals) made the score 9-6 just 5:31 into the final period. Aaron Woods and Brandon Fournier would cut the lead to one with under four minutes to play, but Emmett Printup made it a two-goal game at 17:55 to help the Mohawks remain unbeaten.
