In the first of four weekend series at home the Aspen Leafs took a step closer to securing the second seed for the upcoming RMJHL playoffs. A two-game sweep over visiting Colorado Rampage has the Leafs with a five-point edge on third place Steamboat Wranglers who have two games in hand.
The series began on Friday night with a Breven Bennett power play goal for the Rampage. From that moment on it was all Aspen Leafs. Despite a 51-save effort by Colorado goaltender Jeremy Hamerquist Aspen cruised to a 4-1 victory.
Four different players scored for the Leafs including leading scorer Tommy Bowe, who finished the weekend with four points. Viacheslev Goev, Jesus Barrera-Garcia and Richard Kaye were the other Aspen goal scorers.
Game two saw shot totals a bit closer (48-30), but the Leafs offense was flying in the second half of the game scoring six times in a 6-2 win. Nolan Willoughby tied the game at 9:58 of the second period and shortly after Connor Moore had the home team in front. Hunter Havice scored twice to close the period at 4-1.
Third period goals by Alec Johnson and Bowe were plenty for goalie Jimmy Grosklaus (4-0-0-0) who stopped 28 shots to win his fourth game with the Leafs. His play in net has been a large part in the current five-game winning streak.
FINAL: @Aspen_Leafs 6, @CORampageHockey 2. Stats: https://t.co/ivg7wQxsMm #RMJHL
