Entering the week with just four victories all season, the Colorado Thunderbirds nearly doubled their points in the standings by sweeping a three-game series against Colorado Rampage. The victories snapped a six-game losing streak as well as giving the T-birds a 4-3 edge in the season series against their rival from Monument.
In the series opener the Thunderbirds (7-19-0-1) dominated play for much of the game, outshooting the host Rampage 53-37. The game would end in a shootout though thanks to the stellar play of Rampage goaltender Jeremy Hamerquist who stopped 49 of 53 shots.
Joe Losasso scored twice in regulation while Brayden Mannek tied the game late in the third. Aleksey Sukhomlin (two) and Brenden Polaski scored for the Rampage.
Game two featured some great goaltending on both sides with the teams combining for 133 shots on net. Gage Overby made 68 saves on his way to a 4-0 shutout. His counterpart, Mickell Mannel, also played well stopping 61 shots. Mannek notched a pair of goals to help the Thunderbirds offense.
The setting changed for the weekend finale with the teams playing at Foothills Ice Arena on Sunday. This game would turn out to be the most competitive with the teams ending regulation in a 4-4 tie. It did not take the home team long to end it though as Anthony Flores scored the OT game-winner just :29 into the extra period.
