Steamboat Wranglers wrapped up their 2016 by welcoming the Colorado Rampage to Howelsen Arena December 30-31. With two wins the Wranglers (10-8-1-4) closed their 2016 with 24 points, just one point back of second place Aspen Leafs.
16-year old Cole Kohut (2.14 GAA, .924 save%) made just his second start of the season for Steamboat earning his second victory. He stopped 25 of 27 shots faced while teammates Jayden Dale, Easton Jones and Jarrett Sturtz provided the offense in a 3-2 victory.
Jack Rousseau and Nate Grenier scored for the Rampage while goaltender Jeremy Hamerquist made 38 saves in a losing effort.
The two teams met again on New Year’s Eve and the Wranglers gave the home crowd a show, winning 7-1. Six different players scored for Steamboat including Kameron Fink with a pair of goals.
Zach Dym and Sturtz each scored while adding two assists to lead all scorers. Ethaen Barrica, Sean Moleschi and Collyn Sampsell also scored for Steamboat. California native Trevor DiLauro made 23 saves in net.
The loss dropped the Rampage season record to 6-14-0-0, fourth of the five-team RMJHL.
Next weekend Steamboat will travel to Sertich Arena to take on first place Pikes Peak Miners (22-2-0-0) while the Rampage will be on the road facing Aspen Leafs (12-8-1-1).
