Three games in three days was the schedule for NA3HL teams, who came to Minnesota for the annual NA3HL Showcase at the Super Rink in Blaine. For the Willmar WarHawks it was a huge success, winning all three games by outscoring opponents 13-1.
The WarHawks opened the showcase early Friday morning with a game against Southern Tier Express of Jamestown, NY. The teams played fairly even for two periods before third period goals from Braden Shea and Kane Toriumi propelled Willmar to the 2-0 win. Alexander Cathcart earned the shutout making 24 saves.
Louisiana Drillers of the South Division were the opponent on Day 2 of the showcase. In dominating fashion, Willmar crushed the Drillers 7-1, outshooting their foe 57-15. Toriumi and Jordan Cooper both found the back of the net twice while teammates Alec Skar, Kyle Wendorf and Gabe Gauer each scored a goal.
Goaltender Matt McCoy had a light workload facing just 15 shots to earn his first victory in a WarHawks uniform. The 19-year old from Grafton, Wisc. was making just his second appearance for Willmar.
Willmar wrapped up their weekend with another shutout victory on Sunday, 4-o over Skylands Kings. Alex Weissenborn stopped all 32 shots on net while Gast scored twice to lead the WarHawks. Wendorf and Max Oelkers also scored for Willmar. Shots: WIL=59, SKY= 32
