In the first of six matchups this Mountain West Hockey League season, Breckenridge Vipers traveled to Denver and earned a 7-3 victory over the Pikes Peak Vigilantes. The win evened the Vipers record at 1-1.
Richard McGuire opened scoring for the Vigilantes, who were making their season debut. The lead was short-lived though as Bradley Edelberg scored his first of two for Breckenridge. Less than four minutes later a Tito Yslas goal gave the Vipers a 2-1 lead.
Breckenridge would score twice more in the second before James Terry found the back of the net at 5:30 of the second period. The Vipers led 4-2 at second intermission.
An early third period goal by McGuire cut the Vipers lead to 4-3, but Breckenridge would dominate the rest of the frame to pull away. Goals by Rick Batenburg, Colin Trevlyn and Josh DeLoach made the final 7-3.
