Fifteen games played, fifteen victories. The Pikes Peak Miners (15-0-0-0) kept their winning streak alive last weekend with a two-game sweep of second place Aspen Leafs.
October Player of the Month Erik Anderson kept the Leafs off the scoreboard in the opening game stopping all 42 shots in a 3-0 Miners victory. Three different goal scorers included Lars Culver, Christian Gums and Trevor Checketts.
The following night looked much different, but a third period power surge had the Miners on top once again. Paul Norris scored the lone goal of the first, despite Aspen outshooting Pikes Peak 19-5.
The second frame had a similar look with the Leafs carrying play throughout. Goals by Cory Kane and Brenden Polaski had the Leafs in front 2-1 at intermission after another 18 shots on Anderson.
With 20 minutes to play the Miners win-streak looked like it could come to an end. Trailing on the scoreboard and being outshot 37-11 a different team came out in the third. Gums tied the game 5:46 into the third before Norris netted his second just over a minute late to make the score 3-2.
The floodgates were just opening as the Miners would score five more goals (seven in the period on just nine shots). By the end of the night the scoreboard would read Pikes Peak 8, Aspen 2.
Trevor Paradise and Kole Mudra each scored twice in the game while Michael Rodighiero also found the back of the net.
