Four games played over the weekend saw the two teams atop the RMJHL standings both pick up four points. It also saw Pikes Peak Miners extend their season opening win streak to 11.
Aspen Leafs hosted Steamboat Wranglers at Lewis Ice Arena in a clash between teams who were tied for second place. Aspen native Charlie Van Allen scored a hat trick while Tommy Bowe added two goals leading the Leafs to a 7-3 win on Friday.
Saturday was a much tighter affair with both goaltenders playing well for their team. Willie Chan (36 saves) and Braden Ross (34 saves) led the way as the teams played to a 2-2 tie. Brenden Polaski netted the overtime winner and hat trick to give the Leafs another victory.
Pikes Peak Miners hit the road for a pair in Lakewood against the Colorado Thunderbirds. In the opener Pikes Peak scored the first six goals on their way to an 8-4 win. Patrick Alldredge scored three goals and an assist to lead all scorers in the game.
Saturday was more the same for the league leaders who cruised to a 10-0 win. Kole Mudra (4 goals) while Connor Anderson and Christian Gums each scored twice to help the Miners improve their record to 11-0-0-0.
