Muskoka Wild Win CPJHL Debut

A new league. A new season. The Muskoka Wild began their journey tonight making their Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League debut with a 6-2 victory in Seaforth.

Growing pains are part of everything new, including a new Junior hockey league and its member teams. After a delay due to a schedule adjustment the Wild made their CPJHL debut on Friday facing the Seaforth Generals. With two games already played and being at home, Seaforth seemed to have the edge going into the game. That looked true early on as Avery Avert scored just 2:26 into the game.

Playing shorthanded due to some injuries, Muskoka were not phased and by the end of the opening period led the game. Bailey Davis scored the first two goals for the Wild before Devin Gates made the score 3-1.

Both teams scored once in the second period including a shorthanded goal by Angus MacGibbon. Muskoka took a 4-2 advantage into the final frame.

Both teams had 16 shots on net in the third, but just two Wild players found the back of the net. Taylor Lee (shorthanded) and MacGibbon made the final score 6-2.

Muskoka (1-0-0-0) and Seaforth (0-3-0-0) will face off again Sunday night. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM at Seaforth & District Community Centre.
