WarHawks Dominate In 2-0 Win Over Ice Hawks

After dropping their season opener in Breezy Point on Friday the Willmar WarHawks headed south to Rochester for game two. A first period goal was all the WarHawks needed as they cruised to a 2-0 victory over the Ice Hawks.

Dylan Gast (White Bear Lake) scored his first goal of the season at 9:39 of the opening period in what would end up being the winning goal. Willmar dominated the host team holding Rochester to just one shot on net in the frame.

Goaltender Sawyer Schmidt (1 goal against, 38 saves) kept hopes alive for Rochester turning away shot after shot throughout the game. Willmar ended the game outshooting the Ice Hawks 40-9.

Although far less busy, WarHawks goalie Elliot Gerth (Kankakee, IL) earned the shutout victory in his second start of the season. Jacob Dobberstein (Chelsea, MI) added an empty net goal in the final minute to seal the victory.
