Dayton AirStrikers rookie guard Joe Thomasson has signed a professional contract to play basketball in Romania.
Thomasson will join BC Dinamo București of Liga Națională, the highest level of professional basketball in Romania. Dinamo București are the most successful team in league history, winning the championship 22 times. Their season begins in September.
Joining the AirStrikers in late May, Thomasson made an immediate impact earning Midwest Basketball League Player of the Week after his first game. He was recently named an MBL All-Star Game starter for the MBL East averaging 29.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 7 assists per game.
“I enjoyed the time I played in MBL and it was a great opportunity playing with the guys from my hometown, said Thomasson.”
AirStrikers President Anthony Byrd has this to say, “We are extremely excited about Joe Thomasson’s opportunity to play overseas in Romania. He is a great player and has definitely contributed to the Dayton Airstrikers success of becoming the MBL Eastern Division champions this season.”
A native of Dayton, the 6’3″ standout started his collegiate career at State Fair Community College in 2012. After his sophomore season Thomasson (17.4 points, 5 rebounds, 6.3 assists) was named NJCAA All-American. He finished his college eligibility playing the past two seasons at NCAA Division I Wright State.
Byrd added, “he is an amazing player on and off the court, and we look forward to seeing him do great things in his career.”
Thomasson is the second Midwest Basketball League player to sign a professional contract. John Taylor of Chicago Fury is presently playing for Huracanes del Atlantico in the Dominican Republic.
