Willmar WarHawks took part in the NA3HL Draft on June 14. With a few draft-day deals the WarHawks selected twelve players, three of which were from Minnesota high school hockey.
Drafting 14th, Willmar used their first round pick by taking defenseman Cullen McCabe of St. Paul Academy. McCabe scored eight goals, 19 assists in 31 games last season helping the Spartans to a 24-7 record and a state tournament appearance (finishing fourth).
Jack Goodmanson (Cambridge-Isanti) and Revis Stephenson (Orono) were the other two Minnesota high school players drafted. Goodmanson score 38 points (20 goals, 18 assists) from the blueline while Stephenson is a young 6’6″ winger with potential.
A pair of Michigan high school prospects were also drafted including Connor Smith of Pinckney, who was the 10th leading scorer in the state with 70 points in 27 games. A four-year varsity player, Smith finished his prep career scoring 181 points. Defenseman Chad Dunstan of Houghton was the other Michigan product taken.
