Some high scoring games last week in the Hanover Tachi Junior Hockey League saw plenty of standout individual performances. Callum Daulby helped first place Red River Mudbugs (6-2-0-0) to a pair of victories scoring twice in each game. Mitchell Mohawks goaltender Wade Melnyk stopped 44 shots to help his team to a 6-4 win over Steinbach before his teammate Luke Friesen made 54 saves in a 4-1 losing effort the following night.
None topped the week of Lorette Jr. Comets teammates Boedey Vaeth and Brody Anthony. Vaeth netted a hat-trick, including the game winner, while leading the Comets to a 6-2 win over Springfield Xtreme. Anthony scored a goal and three assists that game then followed the effort with a pair of goals against defending league champion Grunthal Red Wings (5-3-0-0) as Lorette (3-4-0-1) pulled off the road victory stunner.
For the performances Boedey Vaeth (3 goals, 2 assists) and Brody Anthony (3 goals, 3 assists) are the Week 7 HTJHL Co-Players of the Week.
With nine points this season to-date, Anthony currently is fifth among HTJHL scoring leaders and is on a five-game scoring streak. He is excited for the recent play of the Comets saying,
We had a bit of a slow start, but things are starting to click for us; I think the weekend showed that. Things are looking up for us and we’re competing in every game we play.
17-year old Vaeth is making the jump to Junior hockey while playing high school hockey at Lorette this season. He currently leads his HS team in scoring with 16 points (7 goals, 9 assists) in six games. Vaeth played previously for the Eastman Selects AAA.
It’s been a great experience so far! Any time you get called up you wanna make the most of it. It’s a different game coming from high school hockey, but I really enjoyed the games I’ve played in.
