The Hanover Tachi Junior Hockey League schedule for Week 5 was light with just two games played, but the results only tightened the league standings. Grunthal Red Wings (4-1-0-0) moved back atop the six-team table after a 2-1 shootout victory over Steinbach. The Jr. Huskies (2-2-0-1) bounced back two days later to notch a 7-1 win over Mitchell Mohawks (2-3-0-0).
Steinbach jumped on the Mohawks scoring the first four goals of the game. Brad Friesen opened scoring in the game with an assist to Haden Hiebert just over seven minutes into the game. Dylan Plett scored the second goal for the Jr. Huskies while Hiebert added his own to finish the opening period.
Hiebert picked up another assist on the fourth Huskies goal to finish the game with three points – and HTJHL Player of the Week. The 20-year old defenseman is a veteran with Steinbach having played since age 17 after playing midget hockey with Eastman Selects. Knowing more than most about the league, Hiebert is excited on the recent play of the Jr. Huskies;
We’re a very different team than last year, a lot of new faces, but we’re finding our groove as we progress through the season.
Steinbach are back on home ice this Saturday taking on Springfield Xtreme (2-1-0-1). Mitchell host Grunthal on Saturday before Springfield are home to face Red River Mudbugs (3-1-0-0) on Sunday.
