It was an important weekend for the Red River Mudbugs of the Hanover Tachi Junior Hockey League. Two victories, including a 6-3 win over defending champion and previously unbeaten Grunthal Red Wings, has the Mudbugs (3-1-0-0) atop the HTJHL standings.
Jayden Sabourin was instrumental in both wins, scoring a goal each game while adding two assists against Grunthal. His performance has earned the Mudbugs forward the Week 4 HTJHL Player of the Week.
A second-year player for Red River, Sabourin had a solid first season in the HTJHL scoring 22 points (13 goals, 9 assists) in 20 games. A third place finish with a record of 11-9-0-2 was followed with an early playoff exit, eliminated in the first round to Lorette Comets in five games.
A new season has brought on a new mission for the Mudbugs and Sabourin (4 goals, 3 assists) has led the way. Second in league scoring after four games, the former Morris Mavericks standout is excited about the start.
This weekend was HUGE for us. We managed to take 4 points from two good teams and moved to the top of the standings.
