When Minnesota United FC (NASL) entered a reserves side in the National Premier Soccer League in 2014 a new rivalry was born: the Twin Cities Derby. Two clubs separated by just over 30 miles of freeway and presently the only NPSL teams in the state of Minnesota.
On Wednesday, July 1 the next chapter of the derby will be played at East Ridge High School Stadium, home of Minnesota United FC Reserves (3-2-3), in Woodbury. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
Minnesota TwinStars FC have bounced around the west metro in recent seasons, now calling Cooper High School Stadium in Robbinsdale their home. Their young squad is currently bottom of the 13-team NPSL Midwest table at 0-1-5.
There have been three meetings between the clubs so far with each winning once and one draw.
