On July 3, 2015 the inaugural American Soccer League (ASL) season will close with the first ASL Cup. Western Mass PSC will face Icon FC at Rowan Stadium in Philadelphia to decide the first league champion.
Western Mass PSC (11-1-7) topped the regular season table with just one loss during the ASL split-season (Fall and Spring). The loss came at the hands of Rhode Island Oceaneers on April 11.
In their semifinal match Western Mass defeated Philadelphia Fury 2-0. Chris Roswess and Tomaso D’Agostino were the goal scorers while Jose Silva earned the clean sheet with four saves.
New Jersey-based Icon FC (9-4-4) mixed in a week-long tour of China in late May playing against Citizen FC (Hong Kong First Division), Guangzhou Evergrande (China Super League) and Eastern SC (Hong Kong Premier League), winning all three friendlies. Icon were atop the ASL table at times during the season making observers believe the two best clubs are meeting in the final.
Icon FC earned a 6-0 victory over Rhode Island in their semifinal to advance.
During the regular season the teams played twice, both resulting in a 1-1 draw. The first matchup was on October 25 at Lusitano Stadium with the most recent match played on June 6.
