Del Rey City S.C. is proud to announce the signing of Winston Marshall to their United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) squad.
“Winston is a true asset and his addition to the team is going to have a big impact,” DRCSC Owner Brian Perez stated. “He is a talented athlete with incredible skill and one of the nicest guy you could ever meet. It is truly honor to have him playing for the club – it’s humbling.”
DRCSC club coach, Jorge Rodriguez, said “We are extremely excited with Winston’s signing. His experience, technical ability, and leadership will go a long way by not only helping our team on the pitch, but also by showing our youngsters how to be pros off of it.”
The Toronto, Canada native has years of impressive experience at the highest level of the game, playing for the Canadian National Team and FC Dallas of Major League Soccer (MLS).

“I expect us compete to the best of our abilities,” Marshall commented. “I’m not going to promise or guarantee a championship because no matter how talented the players are on a team, unless each and every individual is willing to put the work in, on and off the pitch, it won’t matter. If we play for each other, work our behinds off to win our individual battles, and compete day in and day out, anything is possible and the sky is the limit. Hard work beats talent, when talent fails to work hard.”
He was a standout at Wright State University, earning All-League, All-Ohio and All-Midwest honors each of his four years there. Marshall saw extensive time in the Canadian National Team program, beginning at the youth level. He starred in the youth World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in 2003 before spending time with the U-23 Olympic team and earning numerous call-ups to the senior national team.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to play in various settings,” Marshall added. “From hostile environments during Olympic qualifying with 25,000 spectators, all rooting against us, to the Youth World Cup quarterfinals against Andres Iniestaand a talented Spanish side. Those situations very quickly tell you something about your physical and mental toughness. They demand a level of focus, composure, and self-belief that can be taken and used on any pitch and any facet of life.”
Drafted in the 3rd round (27th overall) in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft, Marshall would begin his MLS career with FC Dallas. He would begin a career in acting after finishing his time in MLS.
Now a resident of LA, Marshall has appeared in a number of television shows including Covert Affairs, Nikita, and Days of our Lives. His soccer skills have even been called upon for several commercials promoting ASICS and Comcast.
“I couldn’t be more excited,” Marshall concluded. “It’s been awhile since I’ve played at this level. My competitive juices are flowing and I couldn’t be more anxious and determined to help my new team in every way possible. Mr. Perez has put together a class organization that plays the brand of soccer I enjoy, and I’m looking forward to the experience with them.”
