In the NPSL Midwest, regular season play came to a close with defending Central Conference winner Quad City Eagles repeating their success of 2013. Needing a draw or win to clinch the title, Quad City cruised to a 5-0 victory over Eau Claire Aris FC and won back-to-back Central championships. The Eagles now move on to Midwest Region playoffs.
Newcomer Minnesota United FC Reserves made things interesting, defeating host Madison 56ers SC 3-0 a night prior. That had MNUFCR tied in points with Quad City, whom they defeated 3-0 on July 5. An early season loss at FC Bordo St. Louis and earning just one point against Twin Cities Derby opponent Minnesota TwinStars FC were too much for United FC Reserves in their chase of the conference title.
With just one loss on their regular season, Quad City Eagles (7-2-1) have the top winning percentage of all Midwest clubs and should be contenders in the region tournament.
