MNUFC Welcome Mexico U21 on Friday

A tour of the United States continues for the Mexico U21 team on Friday when the team will face Minnesota United FC of NASL. The friendly will be played at NSC Stadium in Blaine. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.

The Mexican squad started their tour on June 28 with a 3-3 draw against the San Antonio Scorpions. A last-minute PK by the Scorpions earned the draw in front of 5,129 fans. CD Guadalajara midfielder Giovanni Casilla scored the first goal for Mexico late in the opening half. The winger is currently on loan to Chiapas FC.

After an own-goal the visitors took a 2-1 lead early in the second half. San Antonio evened things at 2-2 before Jorge Espiricueta scored another for Mexico and a 3-2 lead. Espiricueta plays club football at Tigres UANL, but currently is one a 1-year loan to Segunda División B club Villarreal CF ‘B’ in Spain.

On July 1 the Mexican side traveled to Virginia to face USL PRO club Richmond Kickers. The teams played to a 1-1 draw with 2,669 fans in attendance. Tigres UANL product Alfonso Tamay (currently on loan to Puebla FC) scored the lone goal for Mexico.
