Two major cup tournaments will come to a conclusion this weekend at the Coon Rapids Soccer Complex. The Minnesota Cup and Wilson Cup are annual tournaments hosted by the Minnesota Amateur Soccer League (MASL). Semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, June 14 with the winners to play in the finals on Sunday.
Since 1962 the Minnesota Cup has been the top trophy competition for amateur clubs in Minnesota. Any MASL club (Divisions 1-4) may enter. This year 12 teams entered the competition with opening rounds being played on June 7-8. Four Division 1 teams remain in the knockout tournament: Fire SC, Haaka, Inferno 95 and Inferno 98.
The Wilson Cup, named after long-time Minnesota Soccer Association Treasurer Morgan Wilson, has been played since 1968. The competition is similar to the Minnesota Cup, but open to any club outside of Division 1. The four teams that remain are: Blackhawks (Division 3); Blaine FC, Force FC & Stegman’s Athletic (Division 4).
