The stage is set at PPL Park for the 2013 NCAA College Cup championship. Co-conference champions of the ACC, Maryland (17-3-5) and Notre Dame (16-1-6) will play for the second time this season. On October 8, the Terps played the host Fighting Irish to a 1-1 draw.
Maryland won their 23rd ACC Tournament last month by defeating rival Virginia. That result repeated itself on Friday as the Terps topped the Cavaliers 2-1 in the College Cup semifinals. Maryland will be seeking their fourth national title (2008, 2005, 1968) in their final year competing in the ACC (University of Maryland will join the Big Ten Conference on July 1, 2014).
The Fighting Irish are trying to make history in their first trip to the College Cup. Suffering just one defeat (2-0 to Virginia) during the season, Notre Dame defeated New Mexico 2-0 in their semifinal to advance.
