Orlando City SC earned their place in the final by defeating defending playoff champion Charleston Battery 3-2. Three early goals by the Lions were too much to overcome for Charleston.
Losing just one match all season, Commissioners’ Cup winner Richmond Kickers were the overwhelming favorite to defeat fifth-seeded Charlotte. Richmond looked on their way when Mike Callahan scored just 11′ into the match. Charlotte responded with two first half goals of their own and held off the Kickers in the second half to complete the upset.
