The TwinStars FC traveled to Wisconsin over the weekend and came away with a win and a loss. Their NPSL record now stands at 2-1-1.
On Saturday, Minnesota faced defending Midwest champion Milwaukee Bavarian SC, who had just one league match under their belt (a 7-0 win vs Eau Claire). This night, the champs looked all that, defeating Minnesota 3-2.
A first half hat-trick by Kelmend Islami was too much to overcome for Minnesota, who did score early in the second to close the gap to 3-1. Martin Browne (48’) netted his 2nd of the season, but the TwinStars could get no closer. Adama Diawara (90’ +3) scored late to make the final score 3-2.
Islami, who played his freshman season at Marquette University this past fall, is second in NPSL goal scoring (four) behind his teammate James Weber.
The club traveled to Madison on Sunday to face the league-leading 56ers (4-0-0). With the undefeated record and a loss the previous night, Minnesota faced an uphill battle, but came out on top 1-0. A late goal by Keido Pour (89’), the 2007 Class A Mr. Soccer in Minnesota while at St. Bernard’s High School in St. Paul, was enough to earn Minnesota the victory and three points.
The teams will play in Eau Claire on Sunday at 5 PM. See the team calendar for field directions.
