After a 2-2 opening night draw at home, the Minnesota TwinStars must have considered their home match against Eau Claire a “must-win” on Sunday. And they did, dominating their border rival Aris FC 8-1.
Nyuah finishes the breakaway.
In a match that was never close, Minnesota opened scoring early when Robbinsdale Armstrong HS grad Matthew Nyuah (17’) scored on an assist from Adama Diawara. In the 41’ Diawara again assisted on a 1-on-1 goal finished by Martin Browne. Just before half, the TwinStars scored a third, when Nyuah finished a breakaway all alone that was set up by Zee Tamba.
The second half started a bit slow, but saw more goals by Whitney Browne (68’), Hamad Jaman (77’), and a hat-trick from Derek Olemann (88’, 90’, 90+1’). The lone goal from Eau Claire was scored by Gunnar Olson (65’).
The TwinStars FC travel next weekend to eastern Wisconsin to face Milwaukee Bavarian SC (1-0-0) on Saturday and league-leading Madison 56ers SC (3-0-0) on Sunday.
