Butte Irish played one of their best games of the young season on Saturday, defeating the visiting Yellowstone Quake 3-2.
After giving up a goal in the first minute, Butte responded with a pair themselves to take a 2-1 advantage. Zach Bucholt and Tyler Jones were the goal scorers. The Irish out shot the Quake 20-10 in the opening frame.
The team battled throughout the second period with Yellowstone scoring the lone goal despite a 14-12 shot advantage for the home team.
In the third Butte continued to control the flow of the game, out shooting the visitors 18-8. It was a powerplay tally by Koll Tait that proved to be the difference, scoring at 6:33 to give the home fans something to celebrate at the Butte Community Center.
Goaltender Jackson Wagner earned the victory stopping 28 of 30 shots (.933 save%). Jacob Avgustovskiy and Cole Weiderick each assisted on a pair of goals.
The Irish (2-6-0-0) are back on the road next weekend when they travel to face Bozeman Icedogs (5-3-0-0) and Helena Bighorns (5-1-1-0).
