Five-goal effort by Bryce Laager leads Hudson Havoc to season opening win

Season eight of Hudson Havoc hockey began on Saturday night in Spooner with the visitors coming out on top with a 9-5 victory over the Northwest Express.

After an abbreviated training camp new head coach Don Babineau brought 14 skaters to the Spooner Civic Center to face the Express who split their opening weekend series against the Isanti Outlaws.

Veteran forward Bryce Laager provided plenty of offense scoring five goals while adding an assist to lead all scorers. Last season the Blaine High School alum’ split time with the Hudson Havoc (18 games) and a pair of NCDC teams (12 games) scoring 20 goals and 40 points.

Wyatt Hoepfl turned in a five-point effort, scoring twice for the Havoc. Payton Hauge and Tommaso Mazza each chipped in with one goal and one assist.

Bryer Lang (two assists), Derrand Wilcox (assist) and Nick Constantine (assist) rounded out scoring for the Havoc.

Woodville native Dominic Hite made 39 saves to earn the victory in net.

Hudson Havoc return to Spooner next Saturday night before a Sunday matchup in Isanti against the Outlaws.
