Bill Johnson books his spot in RaceSaver Nationals Big Dance

Over 100 sprint cars are competing this week at Eagle Raceway in the IMCA RaceSaver Nationals. Action began on Thursday with practice and qualifying for the Race of Champions.

Six drivers from Minnesota have made the trip to Nebraska for the annual event. Among them is veteran Bill Johnson of St. Peter along with his son Matt who captured the Minnesota Sprint Series title just two weeks ago.

Their 2023 campaign began in early May at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, South Dakota.

“My season started off with some ups and down,” commented Bill. “First race at I-90 Matt and I got to battle back and forth and we finished 2nd and 3rd. Then my bad luck started, we had a motor come apart, then some car issues.”

Both Bill and Matt are regulars at Arlington Raceway where the younger sits atop the track points standings. Father is fifth in points with one feature (August 19) victory.
